AGING PARASITES

And then, there they are
Those who can and those who don’t
Those who walk and those who won’t
Those who talk and those who are silent
Those who are stiff and those who are shaky
Those who are here and those who are gone.
And then, there they are
Awaiting for a blessed soul or maybe an angel
To take their breath away and be liberated
Because they all need some kind of help
Someone to help them to eat
Someone to help them to communicate
Most of them to help them to move
But they are still alive
As a part of a system that consumes itself
Doing nothing more than surviving their pain
They all know they will be better off dead, but they are afraid
And nobody would kill them, it wouldn’t be fair
But unfair to whom?
Not unfair to them
Unfair to that same system than needs them alive
The pill that keeps them surviving
Who cares if they can’t walk, talk or sniff
Who cares if they are even thinking
And then, there the are
After so many years of hard work
After so much lived, so much loved
Ending like this, one by one falling apart
Not without a last attempt to keep them alive
Let me go, please let me go -
They are screaming inside
But the system won’t, the system can’t
The system must keep them all alive
And that’s that, for as long as they can
It doesn’t matter if they really want.
